| Egg laying reptiles existed before birds, so there were eggs around long before the first chicken. Unless you're talking strictly about chicken eggs, in which case I don't know. ;-;

| The egg came first. What's really difficult about this is that evolution spans sooooo many generations and takes such a long time it's difficult to draw a line and say "ok, this is where this animal stopped being a bird very similar to a chicken and started actually being a chicken." But regardless, if you are going to draw that line, you would have to say that a bird very much like a chicken that was not quite yet a chicken laid an egg and a chicken hatched out of it. I'm not saying a lizard laid an egg and a chicken hatched out of it but over millions of years of generations of animals laying eggs eventually these animals stopped being chicken-like-birds and started being chickens.

| Well first I think you guys should highlight which team your on. Second I vote the bacteria lol Third I think after that, the egg, because some animal that was very SIMILAR to a chicken probably laid an egg to an actual chicken. lol

| I think the egg came before the flippin chicken. My reasoning..... The egg probably came from some other species and it just had a genetic mistake/mutation - so when it hatched, it hatched into a chicken.

| The chicken came before the egg :P It takes two It takes two (isn't that a song of some old movie?) Let's think of a better explenation ... 1. If another animal laid a egg and that egg became a chicken (some twisted evolution, yay shit happens) then that animal probally laid another egg. Because otherwise that chicken would die, letting 0children behind. But ... yea hear comes a wise line : If the chicken had children that means he made love with his own brother/sister (is a chicken a guy or a girl ?:o) And that's a no no in animal world 2. If you check the bible then the chicken probally came first But what if ... what if neither of them came first ! o.o

| [color=blue] Chicken. The egg would die before it got hatched if the chicken didn't give body warmth. also... says so in the Bible

| Clarify: What is an egg? Sounds weird, but if you go back to early evolution, you would meet something called "Volvox". It's a multizellular green algea. (The first thing that was able to really die.) Volvox is formed like a globe. And in this globe, there grow "daugther globes". To free this "daugther globes", the "mother volvox" dies and rip open. Isn't that a bit like a (living) eggshell?

| If you believe in evolution, the chicken egg came first. There was a mutation from whatever species became chickens, leading to a new species. That always begins with a new birth. An animal in the wild wouldn't geneticly change it's DNA while an adult to another species.
